What are the first feelings when you ponder about choosing a school for your child? The faculty, the infrastructure, the quality of education… What not. But, often one misses the motivation behind the deeds. Behind the citadel of education that Mann Public School is today, there stands Mr. Joginder Singh Mann. An alumnus of one of the leading residential schools in India and an English (Honours) graduate from the University of Delhi, Mr. Mann has been guiding Mann Public School since its inception in 1989. Leading from the front is of course not a new job for him. As school captain and later as the general secretary of his college he had proved his quality as a helmsman in his formative years.

A firm believer in the fact that education is not just about books, Mr. Mann encourages discipline and creativity among the children he shepherds. Mr. Mann is a keen listener of instrumental music and loves to play the piano. Mountaineering, athletics, horse riding, parade commander, band leader, martial art expert, he has done it all in his school days and he brings this experience to life at Mann Public School. Mr. Mann was also a national level swimmer. To top it off, Mr. Mann worked at the managerial level with the Taj group of hotels for almost a decade. That experience has ensured that students get the best food and living conditions, albeit prudently, for he believes that children must learn to value the different aspects of life. As he says, “School days are said to be golden, but to be really so, fun and work must be synchronised.”

So involved is Mr. Mann with boarding school and the life behind the high walls of boarding school that he has authoured a book chronicling life in boarding school titled ‘Let’s pray before our meal’. ‘Let’s pray before our meal’ is the maiden attempt of Mr. Joginder Singh Mann at unraveling a boxful of wonders about the life and times within a boarding school. This book also serves as an eye-opener, for students and parents alike, on the many myths and realities within today’s boarding schools. Today, as the Director of Mann Public School (MPS) Mr. Mann employs his time between his students, his hobbies and his family. Being an outdoors person, he is a keen trekker and a mountaineer (He completed his mountaineering course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi). He usually embarks on arduous treks to the mountains along with his friends. Not only does he trek, but he also organizes such treks as the President of VINOBA (Vidya Niketan Old Boys Association).
